This was a very fun weekend and we didn’t even go to the actual Olympia show. It was just a great time to be able to see people that I follow on social media live and in living color.
More than anything though it was fun to get away, get out of the comfort zone, and get inspired again about training. I had gotten burned out and bored with the gym because it had become tedious and not about getting better. It had become like punishment so to see people that I actually admired such as Tycie Coppett who is pictured above was very inspiring and motivating. If you aren’t following her on social media and you want REAL inspiration and encouragement and NOT naked pictures with psuedo inspiration, then you should follow her. She is so humble and just as genuine in person as she is online. I am glad I got a chance to meet her. Also she looks AMAZING.
Speaking of looking amazing, it was very nice to see the always inspiring and motivating Jay Cutler at the expo. I didn’t stand in line because I do have SOME dignity. I just hung around his booth for 10 minutes snapping pictures of him like any good creepy McCreeperson would do.
Turns out I wasn’t the only one who was doing this. Other people were standing in front of him and had their friends take pictures “with him”. They offered to do the same for me but I figured I had my moment at the expo so I didn’t need another picture. Just to add I saw some of the pictures some of the “fans” had taken with him and it was pretty funny. One woman looked as if she were taking wedding pictures. I guess as long as you don’t jump on Jay or tackle him to the ground, then security won’t throw you out.
Once again we were able to see current Mr. Olympia and the winner of the weekend, Phil Heath. Um well his teeth were very nice and one man said “I think he has more going on than that.” I said, “Well that’s all I got.” That’s part of the reason we did not go to the actual show.
Having Fun and Meeting New People
Living a Fiercely Fit Lifestyle is not just about chicken, broccoli, and the gym. It’s about meeting fun and new people with similar interests along the way. I was able to meet one of the ladies I met online last year and we went to the weekend together and we had a lot of fun at the expo and at XS Night Club.
As a spin instructor, I was in HEAVEN and got so many new songs including “SOMEBODY TO LOVE” by Mr. Wezol and Freejack which has become my ANTHEM and a favorite in class.
I also learned that I have crossed into the Too Old category when we had to leave one place because it was a little bit much.
Thanks to Dionna we also got a chance to see David Guetta up close and personal.
Right by the DJ booth. Such fun times! I can’t wait to do it all again next year.
Get out of your comfort zone
Going to the Olympia weekend was on my Big 5 for 2015 and it happened. It most likely wouldn’t have happened had I not made the decision to just go instead of mulling it all over. While I have not competed and may not ever compete, I do draw inspiration from strong women and it is nice to be around people who have similar interests.
I think this trip for me represented the need to get out of the comfort zone and have some fun. Life had become long and boring for me because I had this mindset of, “I can’t have any fun until….” Well why not have fun NOW.
I also think it was just a subtle reminder that I am still on my way up. Life isn’t over. I don’t need to pack it in just yet. I can still have fun. Sometimes we just need to be reminded that it’s okay to LIVE.
I love what one woman says at the studio where I train clients: “I am 71 years old and I am not ready to give up the dance floor!” Right on! She exercises every day SO THAT she can get out there and dance!!
I love it! Here’s to more Fiercely Fit Adventures in 2016!
Kind of bummed David Guetta didn’t play one of my favorites: Commander because right now I command myself to DANCE and LIVE BETTER.
