Allyson Felix is the most decorated United States Female Track and Field Athlete of All Time.

She has now won 7 Medals in her Olympic Career just surpassing legendary Track and Field Athlete Jackie Joyner-Kersee. According to an article on the Team USA website, no woman in history has won as many world outdoor championship gold medals as her nine. No track and field athlete in the last three Olympics has won more medals than her six – four golds, two silvers

Even though Allyson did not win the Gold Medal in the 400M after a controversial diving finish from the Bahamas Shaunae Miller, she finished in second with the Silver and made history.

Felix did not offer any excuses for her loss and said that she felt as if the race got away from her.  On her Instagram Allyson Felix said that in a year where everything went wrong (an injury during training, the death of her beloved dog, and not qualifying for the 200M) she still was grateful to win the silver medal.

The Heart of a Champion

Allyson Felix has been nothing but pure class on and off of the track.  She has accomplished so much and yet remains so humble and full of gratitude

Allyson is underappreciated because she doesn’t have that gregarious personality where she is going to hype herself up and remind you how great she is,” said the NBC commentator and four-time Olympic sprint medalist Ato Boldon of Trinidad and Tobago. “I think the further Allyson gets from her career, the more she will be appreciated.” (Team USA Website)

I have been so impressed with Allyson Felix’s demeanor and athleticism.  Before doing the research for this post, I had no idea she was so accomplished in the sport because she carries herself in such a humble manner.  Ato Boldon is correct..she does all of her talking on the track and lets the results speak for itself.

One of my favorite quotes from Allyson Felix shows the strength of her character and why she is not defined by her track results.

I have learned that track doesn’t define me. My faith defines me. I’m running because I have been blessed with a gift.
