This Sheltering in Place during the Covid-19 is definitely a “Coronacoaster”.  One day I feel like things are all right and going to be all right.

The next day it feels that everything is terrible and we’re all going to Hell in a handbasket.

I’ve come to realize this is how it’s going to be.  This is a once in a generation crisis.   Yes, this is a crisis and our job is not to win the crisis.  It’s to navigate through the crisis one day at a time, take care of one another, and hope for the best on the other side.

Big Little Lies

I’m currently reading the book Big Little Lies by Lianne Moriarty
Let me just say that the Book is FANTASTIC and may even be better than the TV show…if that’s possible.

I thought the show was outstanding not just because of the acting but because I loved that the story centered on something we don’t like to talk about: The pressures and facade of the Perfect Life and all the secrets people keep that may be internally destroying them.

Madeline’s (Reese Witherspoon’s character on the show) catchphrase is, “Oh Calamity” and pretty soon other characters in the book start using it.

Oh Calamity! ” sure sums up 2020 thus far!” I thought to myself.

I woke up this morning to thick smoke and an orange sun due to the wildfires currently burning here in California.

Due to the heavy smoke, it is not advisable to go outside when that became one of life’s pleasures during the shelter in place orders.

Oh, and did I mention that we are now on WEEK 24 of Sheltering in Place here in San Francisco.

24 Weeks with no reopening date on the horizon.

Oh, Calamity.

At this point, I am waiting for the locusts and frogs to show up.  I mentioned this last week and my mom said she heard there was a locust invasion somewhere in Africa.

“Don’t forget about the killer hornets!” my grandma reminded us.

Oh, Calamity.

Keep on Keeping On

Rather than give you some faux motivational speech, I’ll just encourage you to keep on keeping on…one day at a time.

I keep thinking about previous generations who had to endure hardship and they kept on pushing.

Of course, they did not have social media and nonstop media outlets that are constantly pumping fear, negativity, and chaos to sell advertising.  I honestly believe that has made what already was a bad situation much worse.

That’s why I stopped reading my morning news briefs, I’ve stopped watching cable news, and I try not to post inflammatory news articles on social media.

I’m also continuing to only check social media twice per day 8 a.m./8 p.m. and have at least 1 blackout day a week.

Things are already bad enough without the constant anger, negativity, and mean spirited behavior that social media promotes.

Oh, Calamity.

Honestly every time I do say or think, “Oh Calamity” I do laugh. Try it this week to see if it does the same for you!!
