Fitness Industry Leader Todd Durkin shared a great word of wisdom that resonated strongly with me.
In Hard Ties Todd encouraged us to: “Be a Lighthouse. What does a light house do? It serves.”
Uncertain times will cause people to reflect on what’s most important in life. As distractions are ripped away and people focus on the cause we realize that concern for others is a major priority. During hard times it is common to start hearing stories about the kindness of others and how people are trying to help each other.
During the Covid-19 Pandemic while we were sheltered in place, I took notice of how people would be intentional and smiling at each other when I was out on my walks.
I saw churches giving away food to the community weekly because of the hard financial times due to the business closures. I saw restaurants and catering companies who don’t have business cooking food for health care workers.
In my own industry I’ve seen Fitness/Wellness professionals who have lost the ability to teach and train are offering classes on Zoom or Social Media and asking for donations but encouraging people to give what they can.
These people are lighthouses. They are serving with no promise of anything in return. Lighthouses stand and they are lights in the darkness giving guidance and direction.
Unfortunately we have the other side of the coins. There are always people who look to take advantage of others in hard times. They see this pandemic as an opportunity to exploit people’s fears with scams and schemes or running around harassing/ people for money under the guise of “helping”
In tough times look for The Lighthouses.
Look for the people who are serving and ignore the people who are looking to take from people using scams, schemes, and false promises.
Look for the Lighthouse and BE the Lighthouse
