The biggest misconception in the Fitness Industry is that Compulsive eating or Emotional Eating is about not having “WILLPOWER” or “NOT WANTING IT BAD ENOUGH.”

People’s issues with food may have developed in childhood and are not about the food.  It’s about something deeper.  Until we are willing to go deep with clients about what is really EATING at them, then we will be stuck with the 95% failure weight when it comes to diets.

I am against dieting.  Period.

I want people to improve themselves and THAT will be the change maker as far as Breaking Free From Emotional Eating.

Throw out all the Diet Jargon

“The first step in breaking free from Compulsive eating is to eat when you are hungry”.

This is such a simple and straightforward concept but how many of us actually do this?  We follow rules put forth by the fitness industry (Eat every 2 hours or else your metabolism will slow) or self imposed rules but we’ve completely lost the ability to realize when we are actually PHYSICALLY hungry.

In working with people and on my own journey, I’ve come to realize that emotional eating is not about the food.  Sure there are some biological factors that lead to compulsive eating such as not eating enough in the first place and then bingeing BUT for many Emotional eating is about a different type of hunger.

Quote:  The danger of compulsive overeating is that we begin to rely on something other than ourselves to monitor our “goodness and badness”.  We’re good when we exercise and bad when we don’t.  If we want to lose weight, we have to work harder.  If we don’t lose weight and we’ve been depending on the workout to do it for us, we rebel and won’t go for a week or two.

This has been a great tool for me and I highly recommend it.

P.S.  I am thinking of doing a coaching group centered around Emotional Eating.  If you’re interested in this, then please out the form on the Online Coaching Page.
