I’ve shied away from asking people what their goals are for this year because I think everybody’s goal is the same:  Stay healthy and Stay Sane.

I was listening to one of my favorite authors, Mark Batterson (okay he pastors my church family on the East Coast) and he’s written a new book called Win The Day.

It’s all about Daily Habits to help you win the day and he said something that really stuck with me.

“You can do it for one day.  Do the Habit for one Day.”

One Day.  That’s it.

In this pandemic, where every day feels like the same day or you wonder where the day went, cultivating a positive habit for even one day can be a daunting task.

I do think focusing on creating a new habit is much better and more encouraging than complaining and wondering when this all will be over.

Note: The Pandemic will be over eventually.  It won’t be over tomorrow but all plagues do eventually come to an end.

Pick a Habit…Any Habit

This week pick a habit any habit that you want to change

Write it down and answer these questions:

Why do you want to stop doing it?
How is it making you feel?
What is your new habit going to be?
How will you feel when you replace that habit?

The habit I chose was to stop getting on social media first thing and also to go along with that to stop watching so much news.

Now I have one main doctor I follow for news about Covid because her messaging is optimistic, not condescending, focused on harm reduction, and very educational

(Dr. Monica Gahndi, UCSF Infectious Disease Doctor and Professor)  Listening to her is night and day from the doomsday crowd.

I also have taken Mondays off from social media. I’m focused on replacing social media in the mornings with Reading. I haven’t been perfect but I continue to tell myself.

Just do it for a day.

One Day at a Time is the only way we’re going to get through this.  Today has enough trouble for its own.  We don’t need to look down the line for more trouble.

This week I challenge you to pick a habit…any habit and do it for a day.
