It’s safe to say that the period leading up to the end of Election 2020 are going to be anything but normal…plus it’s 2020 so that adds the extra element of “You gotta be kidding me,” to the equation.
With that said, I don’t think it’s healthy to sit around contemplating everything that’s going on 24 hours per day.
I was listening to a political podcast and the first ten minutes were spent telling listeners that there is no such thing as certainty after the fiftieth email along the lines of, “I know you don’t know what’s going to happen but What do you really think will happen and is it the outcome that I want?”
Here’s my version of what happened next.
Male Host#1: sighed and said, “For the millionth time: This is what is likely to happen but then that could also happen so we don’t really know.”
Male Host #2: knew this answer would not satisfy the majority of the audience, “Here’s my advice: You have to sit with the discomfort of uncertainty. Another good strategy is to imagine what it will be like if the results of the election are what you don’t WANT to happen and then…”
“And then…dragons,” finished the female co-host.
Before the dragons come…Find an Outlet
In the meantime, before the dragons come, I encourage you to look for an outlet. What’s something that you can do that can keep you busy, not tune in to the news 24/7, and pester your favorite political podcaster about the latest poll.
I know it’s challenging since a lot of things that would normally consume our time are off-limits right now. This makes it even more imperative for you to find an outlet.
Some suggestions I’ve heard from others are: taking classes, crocheting, home improvement projects. reading, trying new recipes, exercise, and hosting Getting to know you sessions with friends (socially distanced or on zoom)
I’ve always been so inspired by the fact that people who have lived through hard times and times of uncertainty kept on living the best way they could.
This week I encourage you to find your outlet.
I’m enjoying non-serious Fiction books (I love a ridiculous romance book) and I even taped a Hallmark movie or two to watch.
Your assignment this week is to find an outlet!
