Week 15 of Sheltering in Place here in San Francisco.

The above photo is from my last Half Marathon 10 years ago.

I recently started running again.  I used to be an avid runner and I ran lots of 5K’s, 10Ks and even a few Half Marathons.

My first outing back at the track was not so good.  My endurance wasn’t up to par and I forgot a lot of the techniques that I learned to be a more successful runner.  I just went out there and tried to get through it.

The second week I started remembering the techniques and strategies to make my run more successful.

One of the techniques I use is to run/walk.  Now my ego wants to prove that I can run the entire time but that’s actually not as efficient as run/walk.

I remembered this in Week 3 when my mile time was 30 seconds slower than in Week 2 when I used the Run/Walk strategy.  In Week 3 I wanted to prove that I could run most of the mile but it ended up making me slower.

We need to apply the Run/Walk Strategy in this season

Last week I attended a meeting where one of the speakers said that we started out this sheltering in place like we were running a 5K but this ended up being a marathon and now many people are burned out and tired.

In my opinion…she nailed it.

Life more than likely won’t get back to normal anytime soon so I think we need to use the distance training strategy of running and walking in this season because this is shaping up to be an ultra marathon.

Like me and my running goals we need to be patient with ourselves.  We run when we can and we slow it down when we need to instead of trying to run the entire time and ending up all worn out.

This is a historic time and it’s an uncertain time. The only thing we can control at this time are our behaviors and our responses.

That is why it is of the utmost importance that we are at the top of our game health wise: Mentally, Physically, and Emotionally.

I’ve called this the Summer of Health and I’ve put together a Five Day Lifestyle Upgrade Plan that you can start anytime. Link is below!
