Several years ago I blogged about how to eat healthy without going broke and it looks like now is a good time to revisit that conversation because if you’ve been to the grocery store lately, then you may have noticed that prices are increasing.

According to the Washington Post,

Grocery prices showed their biggest monthly increase in nearly 50 years last month, led by rising prices for meat and eggs, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Tuesday.

U.S. consumers paid 4.3 percent more in April for meats, poultry, fish and eggs, 1.5 percent more for fruits and vegetables, and 2.9 percent more for cereals and bakery products, the Labor Department said.

Overall, consumers paid 2.6 percent more in April for groceries, the largest one-month jump since February 1974. (Source: Washington Post)This on top of everything else!  How to Eat Well on a Budget

I blogged about this a few years ago and here are some Tips that I’v’e found useful for Eating Well on a Budget

  • Eat Tuna and Sardines instead of Salmon
  • Buy Bananas instead of Expensive Berries (unless you’re buying Berries at Costco)
  • Don’t buy Juice.  Infuse your own water with Fruit Instead
  • Buy Meat in Bulk
  • Buy Frozen Vegetables
  • Cut the snack foods (way too expensive and often unfulfilling)
  • Buy High Usage items in Bulk
  • Make Meatless Meals: Lentils and Beans are your friends.

We are all going to have to make some adjustments with everything that is going on right now and so rather than resisting and complaining…let’s find solutions and roll with it.
