One of my upgrades for 2018 was to be more adventurous in my Fitness Activities.  I wanted to try different classes, get outside more, and get outside of my comfort zone.  I wanted more diversity in activity.

I started off the year doing more intense challenges from Nicole Wilkins which was great for giving me a jumpstart and excited about Weight Training Again.

I then took a few weeks off from weights and focused more on Flexibility and Cardio Conditioning which was also necessary and showed me how much I need to improve my conditioning.

IDEA Convention reignited my fire and passion for health/wellness

A few weeks ago I went to IDEA World which is the biggest convention in the Fitness Industry for Trainers, Instructors, and Managers.

Being in the environment of so many trainers really reignited my fire about eating well, training consistently, and being a good example of what I am teaching people.  While there were some very fit appearing people, I was most inspired by people like Aileen Sherron who is around 60 years old, can still teach, and kick butt.

One woman remarked that the 60 year olds were kicking everyone’s butts!

These are the types of people that really inspire me and who I want to be like when I’m in their age group.  I still want to be teaching, still able to move well, and still enjoying life at a high level even as I get better with time.

With that said, there’s a certain discipline that allows this to be possible.  I understand that this is not what people want to hear.  You may not want to think you have to put in work and then not end up looking like a supermodel.  Guess what?  You don’t have their genetics and so you wouldn’t look like them anyway.

May as well do the best you can with what you have by eating well, exercising, and drinking plenty of water.

Adventure goes outside

My latest fitness adventure was to go outside to Fort Funston and climb the stairs.  I went out there for a friend’s birthday and those stairs were really killer.  I thought to myself, “I really want to challenge myself by doing these stairs.”

It’s more exciting than the stairmaster and it feels good to get outside.

My Latest Goal

My birthday is next month and while I can fit nearly all of my clothes again, there is one more pair of pants that is not wearable out.  I can get into them, zip them up, and button them but they are not suitable to wear outside so my next goal is to get into those pants comfortably by my birthday.

I’m doing Nick Tuminello’s Strength Training for Fat loss (basically circuit training) 3 days a week, some form of conditioning 1-2x per week.

My Nutrition Upgrades to achieve my goal

  • I’ve also dropped the starchy carbs from dinner.
  • I added in a afternoon protein shake which stops me from snacking

That’s about it!!

There will be room in THOSE Jeans!
