This being the second round of the Whole30 is easier than the first round because I know what to expect and I know how to prepare.
I’m making it a point to try at least ONE new recipe per week. This week was Melissa’s Chicken Hash from the book.
For those in my Whole30 Group it’s in your recipe guide.
I really enjoyed it and it works as a great alternative to eggs if I got sick of those.
It’s all in your head
A lot of the cravings we have with food is in our heads. I am always amazed that when I watch a football game that every ad is for delectable pizza and other fast foods that are horrible. I don’t even want those foods but the second I see these enticing advertisements, I’m like a Pepperoni Bacon from Roundtable sounds good. The one that really gets me is the Sourdough Ranch Bacon Burger from Jack in the Box with Hot Salty Fries. I haven’t had Jack in the Box in Years but that looks SO good.
The point is that these food marketers know the way to our stomachs is through our brains. We are constantly bombarded with food messages and it causes us to react. You’re more sensitive to those messages when you’re doing a program like the Whole30 and it’s a really good check on your behavior.
One of the goals of the Whole30 is to examine and work on your relationship with food. Understand why you have certain cravings and then work through that.
With that said, I do need to stop grabbing raisins to eat when I get hungry while I am cooking
Early Morning Workouts
I’ve set my goal for 3x per week and I’m doing Hammer and chisel. I enjoy getting my workouts over and done with early in the morning and then having the rest of the day free to work and be productive.
I also am experimenting with fasting workouts 3-4x per week to see how my body responds. Many people believe this is good for fat loss and I’ve had good results with it.
Hammer and Chisel is a great program because it’s mostly weight training which is essential for fat loss. As I said, Headphones are welcome. The workouts are rock solid but headphones are a good thing.
No Scale
One of the rules of the Whole30 is that you’re not supposed to get on the scale until the program is over because it’s not a diet. It’s a nutritional program and plan.
The first time I completed the Whole30, I had suspected I had lost some weight but I was pretty shocked that I had lost 9 pounds especially since I had been gaining weight steadily.
So if you do the Whole30 stay off the scale. This isn’t about weight loss. It’s about eating better and getting your mind right regarding food.
