So it seems like the media FINALLY wants to acknowledge what EVERYONE has known FOREVER:  Beauty is NOT one dimensional and isn’t confined to ONE body shape or size.

Ashley Graham is the FIRST plus sized model to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated which is a major accomplishment.  Last year she received kudos for being the first plus sized model to be in the issue.

During football season I listen to sports talk and the hosts all said the same thing:  She looks like a normal woman.  She’s hot.

Duh

It’s so interesting because I see more women being body fascists than men.  We’re the ones who want to point to every single flaw and dimple.  The marketers have gotten into our unconscious and CONVINCED us that we are not enough so we’ll buy whatever products that they have for sale.

Ashley Graham:  Body Activist

I love the fact that Ms. Graham calls herself a body activist.  I’ve seen her speak out against calling plus sized women REAL WOMEN.  We’re all real women. Thin, Curvy, Athletic, etc. All are real Women but there’s just diversity in the way we look.

Here are some of her quotes

“I am doing this, fighting in the body activism, because I want younger girls and the younger generation to not have to fight as hard as I fought all these 15 years of my career,” Graham said in a first-person video for ABC News. “I want women to know that they are beautiful no matter what size, age or ethnicity that they are.”

“I also like to think of myself as a disrupter in the fashion industry,” she said. “I have come into a world that has been only accepting of thin bodies, of fit bodies, and saying women of my size aren’t fit. But I truly believe, as a body activist, that we can look beyond the stereotype of a model, that we can look beyond the stereotype of what fit can actually be and actually see people for who they really are.”

“Growing up, I didn’t have anybody that I could look up to, that looked like me, that was confident, that talked about their curves, their cellulite, their rolls, their back fat, the jiggle in their arms,” Graham said. “I want to be that for young girls. I want to be the women that no one else is talking about, having those ‘flaws’ that society says are flaws.”

You know we love that message!

Your daughters are listening

I really like that Ms.Graham speaks out about daughters listening to their mothers in regards to their own body image.  Ms.Graham credits her own mother for helping to instill confidence in her at a young age.

I want to encourage mothers everywhere to step up and be a role model for your daughters.  Don’t allow them to believe this trash that society puts out that there is only ONE type of beautiful and much of that is fake and unrealistic.

Get Rid of Frumpy Dumpy

Gone are the days when those who may have a little extra meat on their bones need to wear muumuus, all black, or cover up their curves.  Women like Ms Graham are showing that you can wear your bikinis, revealing clothes, and just rock it out.  Get rid of that frumpy dumpy crap and WERQ.

We love Ashley Graham and thank her for spreading the Love Your Body Message.  She is the EPITOME of what a FIERCELY FIT LIFESTYLE is all about.
