I’ve heard a lot about the Peloton app and since we’re all working out at home, I decided to try it.
Peloton is known for their Cycle and Treadmill Classes but they also offer Strength, Cardio, and Yoga Classes as well.
I took a 20 minute Total Body Workout with Robin Arzon and it was incredible.
As a Fitness Instructor, there were certain things about her class that stood out to me and let me know she was the real deal.
Encouraging Participants to Go at their Own Pace
This is one of the mark of a Great Instructor. Telling Participants to go at their own pace and encouraging them to go for their personal best is the way to prevent injuries and discouragement.
Emphasis on Proper Form and Providing Modifications
There were modifications for all of the moves and encouragement to choose correct form over going all out. Even better was that Robin went to modifications for some moves modeling the behavior that when form starts to go…then even well trained people can turn it down.
Efficient Workouts
The workouts were efficient and involved the total body with minimal rest. Most people do not have all day to workout so these 20 minute total body workouts are not only a time saver but can provide a cardio conditioning component as well.
There was a mix of core, Total Body, Power (Plyometrics) and even some Compound movements like Squats.
You will get endorphins with the cardio components as well!
MUSIC WAS ON POINT
The key to a great Group Fitness Class is awesome music that keeps energy up and participants in the game. In my years of Instructing, I always found that it worked to have songs that people know and have connection to. During this particular workout Robin had “Nasty” by Janet Jackson and we finished with “Living on a Prayer!”
That makes the difference between a meh class and one that’s rocking
Keeping sight of the Bigger Picture
This is what really nailed it for me and why I’ll be back. Robin said at the end of the class something to the effect of: “We train for challenges so that when challenges come we’ll be ready to stand.”
That’s what separates real fitness coaches from the wanna be’s. The wanna be’s think training is all about looks, six pack abs, and being a certain size.
Real fitness coaches understand you’re training the mind as well as the body. When you’re ready to quit and think you can’t, the coach is reminding that you can. That type of mindset will serve you well when real challenges come.
I highly recommend the Peloton app for Home Workouts. I will definitely keep this one up.
Other Home Workout Resources
Yoga is a big part of my Fitness Routine but don’t always have the time to go to a class so I discovered some great Youtube Classes from non annoying instructors.
Two of my favorites are
Both ladies have tons of options with emphasis on different muscle groups such as low back, hips, hamstrings, neck, and shoulders. There are also 10 minute videos and some excellent morning Yoga routines.
