A few years ago I had a milestone birthday and I went to the gym and wanted to prove to myself that I wasn’t getting older. I was getting better! I must have worked out for 2 hours and for the next few days I could barely move!

Talk about humbling!!

Well as I’ve gotten back into the grooves of lifting again, I trained legs on Tuesday and was still feeling it on Friday!

I’m not lifting very heavy but I am focused on tempo (lifting slower and really feeling the muscles contract) and full range of motion. Many people are lifting weights that are TOO heavy. Just slowing your tempo down and focusing on “staying in the muscle” will really take your workout to the next level (without much stress on the joints)

Truth is I am getting older and I may need a little help in the recovery department so I went to Vitamin Shoppe and bought some Glutamine.

What is Glutamine?

Glutamine is an amino acid that has been shown to help with muscle recovery, immune function, and intestinal health. I do believe that if glutamine helps with immune function then it can help reduce inflammation.

Since I do not believe in using any supplements with artificial colors like Red or Blue, I use unflavored Glutamine. I add it to my water first thing in the mornings and on training days, I add it to my water while I’m working out but with the unflavored version, you can add it to your favorite drink of choice.

So far this week I haven’t been nearly as sore which was my intended outcome.

Almost Home!

I’m about a week or two behind the actual program and I am okay with that. Back in the day being behind on a program would have caused me to give up on it. I would have also been feeling guilty about not doing all of the cardio workouts. With 60-75 minutes of strength training, I don’t have time for 30 minute cardio workouts.

I shared an article on social media this week about what to prioritize first in your workouts and you prioritize what the training focus is for that session or your program at large. My priority is Lifting right now. I’ll work on Cardio and Cardio conditioning when this is over.

Working out is a part of my Lifestyle but I am not about to have it become my life again.

My theme this month is to Keep Showing Up and that also includes the gym!
