I am so high maintenance that I get my Girl Scout Cookies delivered from the East Coast! I haven’t seen any Girl Scouts selling cookies here in the Bay Area so I went to my East Coast troop connection and got my cookies sent to me! Anything to help empower girls right???
I’m not afraid of bingeing on these cookies and I’m not even afraid of having them in my house. I couldn’t say this just two years ago.
I remember having to put cookies and food in my car because I was so afraid that I would eat the cookies. I can also remember eating the entire box of Shortbread cookies in one weekend the previous year!
What Changed?
I was no longer restricting and I believe that is a major key to Fat Loss. So many of these diets start off with:
Then of course that’s exactly what you begin to crave even if you don’t want it. I tell my clients it’s like if I told you to close your eyes and NOT think about a Purple Zebra. Chances are you weren’t thinking about a Purple Zebra before I told you NOT to think about it.
That’s how it works with most diets. People get so focused on what they aren’t allowed to have that it sets up the craving for those items even if it’s not something they would eat normally.
Use your splurges/treats/fun foods to help you
2-3 times a week have a splurge/treat/fun food. I prefer to do mine on days that begin with S. Makes the weekend so much easier or if you have an event to attend use the splurge pass then.
It helps reinforce that your eating routine is a LIFESTYLE rather than a diet. You may not have the dramatic short term results but you will have the results that last.
If you’re on a Fat Loss Plan, these splurges can help you as well so your body does not adapt to lowered calories. On competition diets, sometimes coaches will give what is called a re feed or some just call it a cheat meal.
Coaches typically do this when people have plateaued with fat loss and they want to turn their thermostat (metabolism) up. It’s not uncommon for people to see major drops and changes after a big re-feed. The goal is not to have the body adapt.
Where typical diets fail is that they put people on unsustainable plans without any treats. The best strategies I have ever followed, allowed one day to eat what you would like. Enjoy a brownie, some ice cream, or chips and guacamole. What you’ll find is that as you take the restrictions off, the allure and cravings are not far behind.
The more you restrict and build up fears of foods, the higher the chances of bingeing. I say pick a day that begins with S and move on.
Since going back to this method,I am no longer tempted by cookies and I’m no longer afraid of cookies! You can do the same!
