The big news this week is that I achieved my goal of jogging for two minutes and walking for one minute.  There were a few times during the run when I thought the app had stopped because it seemed to be at least twenty minutes.

I am improving somewhat with my endurance because I have designated three places to check the time and distance, and I decided to stick to that today instead of constantly checking the time and distance to see how much further there is to go.

This was more fun when I was younger.

I don’t often acquiesce to my age, but running was easier and more fun when I was younger.  The last time I ran a race was fourteen years ago.  I was twenty-nine, about to turn thirty. I am now forty-three, about to turn forty-four, and this isn’t as easy, nor is it as fun.  Part of the fun for me was that the members at the gym and other instructors were also running the race.  I also think that being more involved in the fitness culture in general made me feel like I was part of something. Perhaps once I show up at the race, I will feel that same energy again.

I acknowledge that the world has changed TREMENDOUSLY since 2011, and while I am looking to stack wins and recapture some of the magic I felt back then, I know that may not be possible anymore due to my own life experiences and the state of the world.

Something New….

As I rebuild my life and transition into this new season, I’m eager to try different things to push myself out of my comfort zone and experience new scenery and energy.

In June, we commemorated the first anniversary of my mother’s passing, and there is something spiritual about that anniversary. I think it’s because that’s when you come to terms with the fact that your loved one is not coming back, and you realize you’ve made it through. You’ve survived, and now it’s time to move forward and keep on living. My mother would not want me sitting around being sad.  She would want me to move forward.

I will be glad when this race is over because I miss Strength Training.  While training for this 10K, I have continued to strength train at least twice a week, but I have done shorter workouts with an emphasis on core training and endurance. I would be glad to return to at least three times a week of longer, more intense strength training workouts.  One thing I am keeping from this experience is still doing at least one Pilates session with Peloton, though!

Next week is my last week before the big race!
