I am more than halfway through the Nicole Wilkins 60 Day Fitness Challenge! One of my favorite things about fitness challenges is discovering new products and foods to help me along the way.
During this Fitness challenge, I’ve started drinking an Organic protein shake from Orgain to supplement my Protein Needs.
Along with helping to increase my protein intake, another benefit from this shake is that when afternoon cravings or boredom-induced snacking hit, this shake hits the spot without digestive upset.
While I use the Whey versions, Orgain has plant-based alternatives as well. I’ve also used these shakes when I’m out and don’t want to buy food or have to settle for a snack that won’t do much for my hunger anyway.
Protein isn’t a magical macronutrient
Protein isn’t a magic nutrient that will burn fat or any of the marketing hype BUT increased protein does have benefits for those that struggle with sugar cravings.
Increased protein intake can help with sugar cravings by keeping blood sugar stable so that you don’t reach for sugary snacks to get it back up. You will also feel more satisfied so that you’re less likely to reach for empty carbohydrates to snack on.
Sometimes convenience wins out….
Of course, fresh whole food is best but sometimes convenience wins out.
These Protein Drinks taste great, they are convenient, and the ingredient list isn’t horrifying. If I’m going to do a Ready To Drink Protein Drink I want one with the least amount of offensive products as possible.
Helpful for Older Adults who may need more protein
At my Functional Aging Institute certification, I learned that older adults generally do not get enough protein for a variety of reasons including dental challenges and decreased appetite.
Protein shakes can be a great supplement for older adults but some of the popular nutritional supplements marketed toward older adults like Ensure have questionable ingredients and nutrition.
You can find these Shakes at Costco for a reasonable price. I’m not getting paid for this. I just like to share what I’ve found that is working for me.
This is an upgrade I’ll definitely be keeping around for a while.
