I finally finished my last workout for the Nicole Wilkins Buns N Guns challenge. I finished a couple of weeks late but my entire goal was to complete the challenge.
Gone are the days when I would work out 5-6 days with no question and feel guilty about missing a day. I don’t believe that’s necessarily the best and most efficient way to train and I simply don’t have the time nor motivation to do it anymore. If i get in a good 3-4 days, then I’m good.
What I liked about the challenge
Nicole’s challenges are always different and they are always challenging. When I did her 60 Day Transformation challenge in 2018, by the last day I was wiped out!!
I loved the Hip Circle as an addition to my workouts and added it in for all of my clients to stabilize the knee and activate the glutes even more.
I also liked the 7 sets of 10 reps she would throw in. I’ve had experience with that type of training in the past and it’s always challenging.
I started doing 7-10 minutes of stairs prior to training legs to warm up the joints and to warm up the muscles and I do think it made a difference. I will be doing this in the future.
What needed to upgrade
I didn’t do much cardio due to time constraints so in my next phase of training, I will focus more on cardio conditioning.
I do not follow meal plans anymore because I think we should listen to our bodies and trust ourselves when it comes to nutrition. I did add back in a first meal due to the strength training. For me this is an area where I will always be conscious and so I’m happy I decided to listen to my body in this regard.
One thing that bothered me is that I seemed to have lost my enthusiasm for training 60% of the time. I will show up but I don’t have that excited and hyped up feeling I had a few years ago.
I’ve wondered if it’s because I’m not apart of the #fitfam community anymore and interacting with people who talk about training and are into that lifestyle. That kind of interaction does improve motivation levels when training and you do feel apart of something bigger than yourself.
A Blast from the Past
A few weeks ago I did Bodypump with the Fit Group from my Faith Community. One of my friends was doing his assessment video and since I had the day off, I was happy to support him.
Leading up to the class I was a bit nervous about whether or not I would make it through. I am a few years older than I was the last time I did Pump and plus I didn’t want to be embarrassed as the trainer who withered during the fitness class.
Great news! I made it through the class and I enjoyed myself. I guess I was one of the only people smiling throughout the class but what can I say? It’s my thing!
Not only that I was relieved that I may be over 35 but I can still hang. I refuse to allow my age to define me.
What’s next…
I want to focus more on Cardio Conditioning so I will be doing Interval training with Cardio, Circuit Training, and I’ll probably add in my Home workouts for variety.
One of my goals this summer is to take a Barry’s Bootcamp, Orangetheory, or Barre classes. I do enjoy community so that will be a nice change of pace This month I will be heading back to my annual fitness convention called IDEA world. I’m sure that will get me fired up. I’m planning on taking some classes from some top trainers in the industry and that always gets me pumped!!!
