It’s all about the Process

Last year I learned a lot of important lessons and one of them is to STAY FOCUSED on the mission. I cannot allow myself to get distracted and become scattered to the point where I’m not making any progress toward my intended outcomes.

I believe that is one of the reasons most people do not succeed with their goals.

Every January we receive the same marketing messages about goals, healthy eating, exercise, and making a fresh start.

Most people make a fresh start until about January 15 and then they’re done.

Why?

They’re too distracted, too busy, and they are trying to do too many things at once.  It’s all too overwhelming and stressful so they give up.

This year I didn’t have clients set goals.  Instead I had them develop ONE theme for the month.  I feel as if this is more organic and people connect with it more than: Cut Sugar, Exercise 5x per week, etc.

So instead of trying to overhaul everything at once people came up with themes such as:

  • Keep Moving
  • Move More
  • Stay Thirsty (Drink Water)
  • Cook More
  • Be Flexible
  • Be Deliberate

Process Goals

Earlier this week I received an email from Alwyn Cosgrove who is one of the top trainers in the industry and he talked about “Process Goals”.  Instead of setting a goal like “Lose 10 pounds” he set a goal of doing 220 workouts per year.

That is why I host my Monthly Community Challenges.  It helps people to focus on ONE thing and is more focused on process.

The next 2 Challenges are:

February: Eat More Veggies Challenge/No Sad Salad

March:  Improving Your Sleep

Even with my own fitness routine, I am putting myself through my own 60 Day Strength Challenge.  My focus is on completing the process and results will come.

So this month instead of trying to overhaul your whole life just because it’s January:

  • Pick ONE thing to Improve and focus on that for the month
  • Develop a theme for yourself to remind yourself to be consistent!
  • Write it all down!
  • Write down your victories!
