Arthur set a new American record in women’s 75kg competition with her 107kg snatch. She broke Doreen Fullhart’s record of 106kg set at the 2006 national championship. Arthur already is the record holder in clean & jerk.
A Dream Come True…
She was the FIRST woman named to the American Weightlifting Team. Here’s what she had to say about it:
The day I found out I qualified for the games, all I could do was cry, it was a dream come true literally. You have to be focused everyday, you have to be determined, sometimes you don’t feel like training, but you have to do the things it takes to reach the next level. My goal at the games is to reach the podium, I want to show people it’s possible to reach your goals as long as you stay focused. It’s a huge blessing, you think about competing on this bigger platform, it’s a dream come true. I also love helping others, it’s a very powerful experience for me it’s all about giving back, it’s a huge blessing the position I’m in.”
Gold Medal Heart
A believer and woman of deep faith, Jenny Arthur is known for her Gold Medal Heart and her volunteer work at hospitals and homeless shelters.
Petty Comment on the coverage of Women’s Weightlifting
It would have been nice to have seen the women’s weightlifting events televised but NBC clearly felt that ping pong and archery were more interesting.
